The New Rules of Hot Rodding

Among the most popular destinations at the SEMA Show, Hot Rod Alley is home to exhibitors who design and manufacture products intended to add reliability, performance and comfort to American classics. The hot-rod niche has seen significant growth in recent years, and it’s currently estimated to be a $1.26-billion industry, according to the Hot Rod Industry Alliance’s “2017 Biannual Report.” Gauging by the number of Hot Rod Alley exhibitors honored in the 2017 Global Media Awards, it’s also a category that’s gaining momentum worldwide.

Hot Rod Alley at the SEMA Show includes a mix of street rod, custom car and street-performance products and services pertaining to everything from classic ’30s vehicles to ‘70s musclecars and beyond. This diverse category showed growth for the third consecutive year at the SEMA Show. For 2016, the number of companies exhibiting in the hot rod segment grew 2% and occupied 4% more square footage on the Show floor than in the prior year.

GTR TaillightsSince SEMA’s inception during the ’60s, the hot-rod market has been expanding with new products intended to make the culture of performance and restoration a continuing trend. The New Products Showcase gives Showgoers a shortcut to discovering the cutting-edge products that are keeping this segment on the forefront of the aftermarket industry. Exhibiting a positive trend, the Showcase had a 37% growth in product entries for products classified under the hot rod title.
