The Iola Car Show in Iola, Wisconsin, coincided with the CCAD celebration.

On July 14, 2017, SEMA members joined with car clubs, businesses and thousands of enthusiasts to celebrate the eighth annual Collector Car Appreciation Day (CCAD). A wide range of events was held in the United States and Canada to commemorate this special day. The celebration was designated by SEMA-requested U.S. Senate Resolution 215, which was sponsored by U.S. Senators Richard Burr (R-NC) and Jon Tester (D-MT).

The resolution acknowledges “that the collection and restoration of historic and classic cars is an important part of preserving the technological achievements and cultural heritage of the United States.” Lawmakers in states, counties and local areas all over the United States and Canada followed the Senate’s lead. The states of Louisiana, West Virginia and Wisconsin as well as the Canadian Provinces of British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island and Saskatchewan adopted their own recognitions honoring the occasion.

Classics of the past and the future were celebrated at 130 official events, including car club cruise-ins, open houses at SEMA-member companies, specialty shows at automobile museums and “drive your collector car to work” displays. A detailed summary and online photo gallery of CCAD celebrations are available on the SEMA Action Network website at

CCAD is supported by SEMA and its Automotive Restoration Market Organization and Hot Rod Industry Alliance councils.

U.S. Representative Jared Polis (D-CO).

Jim Chick is a director at Bestop, which is based in Louisville, Colorado. Chick joined the SEMA PAC President’s Club in 2016 and previously served on SEMA’s Board of Directors.

“I was fortunate to grow up as an enthusiast,” Chick said. “Having then made a career in the aftermarket, my ringside seat to the marketplace has fired a passion to be personally involved in keeping access to the land we all love to enjoy with our vehicles and the people we meet there. The President’s Club is another way to multiply my passion where it counts, keeping our voice heard loud and clear with those whom we elect to safeguard our rights and liberties.
I believe the SEMA PAC is a very effective, proven pathway to the steps and offices of those regulating our industry and livelihood.”
