It’s a new era for the kit car industry. President Obama signed into law legislation that will permit low volume car manufacturers to produce turn-key replica vehicles for customers nationwide. The SEMA-supported provision is part of a larger highway construction bill. Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) and Rep. Gene Green (D-TX) introduced the “Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act of 2015” in June, legislation that SEMA has pursued since 2011. It received strong bi-partisan support and was inserted into the highway bill.
The number of specialty equipment businesses discovering and leveraging quality product data as a tool for increasing sales is on the rise, with hundreds of companies investing time and connecting with the SEMA Data Co-op (SDC) during the 2015 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, NV. The SDC kicked the SEMA Show week off with a dedicated “Education Day” on Monday, followed by four days of one-on-one meetings where companies discovered how to best manage product data in today’s technology heavy marketplace.
The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) announced today the Top Ten builders in the SEMA Battle of the Builders® Competition. They now advance to the next round where showgowers and the public watch as they evaluate and judge one another’s vehicle before the ultimate winner is announced at SEMA Ignited on Friday, November 6. The Top Ten builders will judge each other on Friday, November 6 from 11:00am to 2:30pm and the Top Three Finalists will be announced at 3:30pm at the SEMA Show Car Crazy Stage. The winner will be announced later that evening at SEMA Ignited.

These 21 builders have a passion for modifying cars, trucks and SUVs and inspire the aftermarket community with their ingenuity and expertise. Introduced at the SEMA Show last year, the SEMA Battle of the Builders® competition recognizes the builders the aftermarket community considers best.
The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) announced the winners of the 2016 New Products Showcase Awards this morning at the 2015 SEMA Show. This award is given to the most innovative and cutting-edge automotive aftermarket products that will be consumable in 2016.
The top trending vehicle models in four categories were announced today at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas. This year’s SEMA Award for the Hottest Car was awarded to Ford Mustang, the Ford Focus took the Hottest Sport Compact honors, the Ford F-Series was named Hottest Truck and the Jeep Wrangler received the Hottest 4x4-SUV award.
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) today issued a letter recognizing the SEMA Emissions Compliance Center as a Certification Ready Automotive Emissions Testing Laboratory, making it possible for SEMA to assist members in all aspects of securing CARB and federal EPA emissions compliance.
The U.S. Copyright Office today issued a ruling to allow vehicle owners to perform vehicle diagnosis, repair and modification without fear of prosecution under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). However, the Copyright Office declined to provide the exemption to third parties who diagnose, repair or modify a vehicle on behalf of the vehicle owner. The Copyright Office concluded that extending the reach of an exemption to cover third-parties requires a legislative amendment undertaken by Congress. Access to a vehicle’s telematics or entertainment system was also specifically excluded from the exemption.
